Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said it didn't surprise the team that Anthony Davis earned a starting nod for February's All-Star Game in New Orleans, considering Davis would be an MVP candidate if their record was better. "I'm happy for him," Gentry said. "It's important for him to represent this city. I don't think people realize how much he loves this city and what it means to him. To be able to play in the hometown, in the All-Star Game, I think it's very, very important to him."

Like they did with their Houston team, Texas' new coaching staff will sort players into 3 groups this offseason. The "gold" players are leaders who take care of their business. "Green" players are improving. And the ones who need help, the troublemakers who skip class and tutoring? Strength coach Yancy McKnight says they'll be the "crimson" group, clearly a nod to rival Oklahoma.

The NBA Last 2 Minute Report says Washington should've been assessed a technical foul for assistant Sidney Lowe being on the floor, something Courtney Lee said affected his decision to take a potential game-tying 3 because he says Lowe shouted out as if he was a help defender in the vicinity with 7.6 seconds left. "WAS assistant coach stands on the floor close to Lee (NYK) for several seconds and should have been assessed a technical foul," the report states. The L2M, though, also states that Lee moved his pivot foot with 5.2 seconds left before driving and should've been called for traveling.

76ers center Joel Embiid has scored 20 or more points in 10 consecutive games, one shy of Allen Iverson's 76ers rookie record, set in 1996-97. Embiid has at least 20 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot in each of his last 10 games. The only other rookies with a streak like that since the NBA started compiling blocked shots in 1973-74 were Patrick Ewing for the Knicks in January 1986 (12 games) and Tim Duncan for the Spurs in March and April 1998, also 12 games (source: Elias Sports Bureau).

Anthony Morrow said he addressed his teammates about their reaction to the Zaza Pachulia incident with Russell Westbrook: "They kind of nudged Zaza out of the way, but that's just something that between us we had to talk about. I addressed it right as soon as we got in the locker room. But I don't see that happening again ... It's the NBA, ain't nobody gonna fight. We're not going to fight on the court, but you've got to let people know they're not going to be able to do that."
